The Royal Society of Canada is the oldest association of scientists and scholars in Canada. ... Election to Fellowship in the Society is the highest academic accolade available to scientists and scholars in Canada." Παρατίθενται αποσπάσματα από κείμενα που περιγράφουν το πολύ σημαντικό επιστημονικό έργο του και δικαιολογούν την απόφαση της RSC.

(2) The formal announcement of the RSC, September 8, 2011:

PETRIDES, Michael - Glossary Link Neuropsychology/ Glossary Link Cognitive Neuroscience Glossary Link Unit, McGill University Michael Petrides has provided us with new ways to conceptualize the role of the Glossary Link prefrontal cortex in cognitive processing and one of the most influential models of the anatomo-fuctional organization of the lateral Glossary Link frontal cortex. His discovery of the cytoarchitectonic homologue of Broca's language are in the monkey is having a major impact on conceptions of the evolution of language circuitry in the primate Glossary Link brainhttp://www.rsc.ca/documents/media/Class_of_2011_Citations_ENG.pdf

(3) The announcement of McGill University 8/9/2011:

Two prominent Neuro faculty members, Dr. Frederick Andermann and Dr. Michael Petrides, are among the nine McGill professors elected Fellows in the Royal Society of Canada, Canada's national academy of arts and sciences.

"Michael Petrides joined the Neuro faculty in 1979 and has been the Director of the Cognitive Neuroscience Unit since 1990. He was named a James McGill Professor in 2001 and holds a faculty appointment in the departments of Glossary Link Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Psychology. Dr. Petrides' research focuses on the Glossary Link function of the frontal and parietal Glossary Link cortex in cognitive Glossary Link activity. He is well respected by colleagues for his careful application and examination of Glossary Link animal model systems to understand how Glossary Link damage to the frontal cortex changes the ability to monitor self-generated, intentional actions. He also studies the action of single cells in this region of the brain to determine the Glossary Link specific Glossary Link neural activity that underlies the Glossary Link monitoring of Glossary Link working memory. Dr. Petrides was educated at the University of London and University of Cambridge and has been a Killam Scholar. He is also a Foreign Honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences." http://www.mcgill.ca/research/channels/news/177115

(4) Older achievements and Honors of Professor Michael Petrides:

Michael Petrides elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences - 2007
Michael Petrides, director of the MNI's Cognitive Neuroscience Unit and a Killam Scholar, was elected to the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences. This honour is bestowed in recognition of his research on the function of frontal cortex and its role in working Glossary Link memory. Michael has demonstrated that the mid- Glossary Link dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is critical for monitoring thoughts and plans for action, while other areas of frontal cortex are necessary for selecting actions based on conditional rules. With comparative anatomical studies, he is also uncovering how language capabilities evolved. Michael is one of 24 new Foreign Honorary Members and 3 Canadians elected this year. He is joined as a new member by former US Vice President Al Gore and winners of the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize and Academy Awards. At the MNI, he follows in the footsteps of Brenda Milner, who is also a Foreign Honorary member of the Academy. The formal Glossary Link induction ceremony will take place in October at the Academy headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Michael Petrides, an outstanding teacher - 2010
OWEN EGAN

Michael Petrides received the Principal's Prize for Excellence in Teaching for his dedication to students, commitment to teaching, and the creative conceptualization and implementation of instructional models. Michael studies the role of the frontal and parietal cortex in Glossary Link cognition, and shares his expertise with students of Glossary Link biology, neuroscience and psychology in his courses on human cognition. Forty-three faculty members have received the Principal's Prize since 2000, and this year Michael is honoured with 3 colleagues from management and law.
