The Hellenic Society for Neuroscience was established in 1985 and aims to support all neuroscience researchers in Greece and advance neuroscience research and education. HSN is a member of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and the International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO).
The Goals and Objectives of the Hellenic Society for Neuroscience are:
- To promote research and knowledge about the nervous system, including its role in shaping behavior, by facilitating communication between scientists and fostering research in all areas of neuroscience
- To promote education in neuroscience and to foster the careers of young researchers
- To stimulate public interest in the results, applications and implications of research in the neurosciences
In pursuing this mission, HSN regularly surveys and assesses the needs, as well as the scientific and technical potential of Greek regions, organizes biennial meetings, holds seminars and lectures, leads discussions, organizes appropriate committees, in cooperation and synergy with any other scientific or appropriate bodies
As stated in its constitution, a major aim of HSN is to cultivate and advance excellence and quality in neuroscience research, integrity in research conduct with the strongest emphasis on inclusiveness, equity, gender equality, diversity, respect, and fairness. We seek to sustain a welcoming and inclusive environment for all our members and neuroscientists in Greece, and we strongly believe that inclusiveness and respect drives innovation research excellence.
